Charles Ellis Schumer (/ˈʃuːmər/ SHOO-mər; born November 23, 1950) is an American politician serving as the senior United States senator from New York, a seat he has held since 1999. A member of the Democratic Party, Schumer has led the Senate Democratic Caucus since 2017 and has served as Senate Majority Leader since 2021. The dean of New York's congressional delegation, Schumer is in his fifth Senate term and was the Senate's minority leader from 2017 to 2021.
