Françoise Nyssen

Françoise Nyssen (French pronunciation: ​[fʁɑ̃swaz nisɛn]; born 9 June 1951) is a French-Belgian publisher and politician and a former director of the Actes Sud publishing house. From 2017 until 2018, she served as Minister of Culture of France in the government of Prime Minister Édouard Philippe. Early in her career, Nyssen worked first as an urban planner in Paris. In 1987, Nyssen became an associate and presiding director of Actes Sud publisher, founded by her father Hubert Nyssen, and located in Arles. Françoise Nyssen and her husband founded the school Domaine du possible in 2014, using Steiner-Waldorf paedagogical methods. Freya Van den Bossche (born 26 March 1975) is a Belgian (Flemish) politician and daughter of prominent former Belgian politician Luc Van den Bossche. She is member of the SP.a political party, and she was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Budget and Consumer Protection in the Belgian federal government. She was the youngest ever minister appointed in Belgium. Freya Van den Bossche followed her secondary education at the Royal Atheneum Voskenslaan in Ghent. She studied law from 1993 to 1995 at the University of Ghent, but did not obtain a degree, and ultimately graduated from the University of Ghent with a master's degree in Communication Sciences in 1999. Frieda Gijbels (born 1975) is a Belgian politician and a member of the Flemish N-VA party. Gijbels studied dentistry at the KULeuven and specialized in periodontics. In 2003 she became a dentist-periodontist and also obtained a doctorate in medical sciences. She is the founder of a periodontology practice in Oudsbergen. Gaston François Marie, Viscount Eyskens (1 April 1905 – 3 January 1988) was a Christian democratic politician and prime minister of Belgium. He was also an economist and member of the Belgian Christian Social Party (CVP-PSC). He served three terms as the prime minister of Belgium, holding the position from 1949 to 1950, 1958 to 1961 and 1968 to 1973. During his periods in office, Eyskens was confronted with major ideological and linguistic conflicts within Belgium including the Royal Question in 1950, the School War in 1958, the independence of the Belgian Congo in 1960 and the split of the University of Leuven in 1970. Gerolf Emma Jozef Annemans (born 8 November 1958) is a Belgian lawyer, journalist and politician of the Flemish nationalist party Vlaams Belang (VB) and formerly of its predecessor, the Vlaams Blok. Guido De Padt

Guido De Padt (born 23 May 1954) is a Belgian politician and Senator for the Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats. Since December 2011, he also is the mayor of Geraardsbergen, an office he also held from 2001 until 2006. He started his national career as member of the Chamber of Representatives. From December 2008 to July 2009, he was Minister of the Interior in the Van Rompuy I Government. In the Leterme II Government, he was appointed government commissioner for the internal audit of the federal government. In 2011, he replaced the socialist Freddy De Chou [nl] as mayor of Geraardsbergen. He got national media attention as strong defender to keep the Muur van Geraardsbergen in the Tour of Flanders. His party won the 2012 local elections in Geraardsbergen with 36% of the votes, while he got 25.8% of the preference votes. Guy August Marie-Louise D'haeseleer (born 12 March 1969) is a Belgian politician who has served as the Senate leader for Vlaams Belang since 2014 and is chairman of Forza Ninove, the local chapter of Vlaams Belang in the city of Ninove. D'haeseleer worked as a consultant at the Flemish Public Employment Services (VDAB). From 1994 to 1999 he worked as a parliamentary assistant for the Vlaams Blok fraction in the Chamber of Representatives. In the 1999 elections, D'haeseleer was elected a member of the Chamber of Representatives for the district of Aalst as an MP for Vlaams Blok. Following the dissolution of Vlaams Blok in 2004, he joined its successor Vlaams Belang. Herman Francies Joseph De Croo (born 12 August 1937) is a Belgian politician of the Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats. First elected in March 1968, he is the longest serving Belgian member of parliament, serving uninterrupted until 2014. He is the father of incumbent prime minister Alexander De Croo. He went to school at Collège Saint-Stanislas in Mons. He obtained a doctorate in law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1961, and later attended the University of Chicago Law School on a Fulbright Scholarship. Hilde Urbanie Julia Crevits (born 28 June 1967, in Torhout) is a Belgian politician from Flanders and member of the Christian Democratic and Flemish party who is currently the Flemish minister of Economy, Innovation, Work, Social economy and Agriculture. Crevits graduated from Ghent University as a Licentiate of Law in 1990 and subsequently became a lawyer. Crevits served on the provincial council of West Flanders from 1999 to 2004, when she was elected to the Flemish Parliament in the 2004 regional elections. From 2000 to 2007 she served as an alderman in Torhout. After the 2007 Belgian federal elections, in the cabinet reshuffle of 28 June 2007, Crevits took over the competences of Kris Peeters in the Flemish Government as Flemish minister of Public Works, Energy, the Environment and Nature. Inge Vervotte

Inge Vervotte (born 27 December 1977) is a Belgian politician for the Christian Democratic and Flemish party (CD&V). She was Belgian federal minister for Civil Service and Public Enterprises in the Leterme I Government, which was in office in 2008 from 20 March to 30 December. Born in Bonheiden, she graduated in 1998 at the Katholieke Sociale Hogeschool in Heverlee as a social assistant [nl]. She started her professional career with the Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (ACV). Ingrid Lieten (born 20 April 1964, Hasselt) is a Flemish politician and former Minister for Innovation, Public Investment, Media and Poverty Reduction in the Flemish Government for the Socialist Party – Different. She studied jurisprudence at the VUB and became a lawyer at the bar association of Brussels and Hasselt. A couple of years later, she obtained a master's degree in Industrial Location and Development. On 1 January 2002, Lieten became CEO of De Lijn, de Flemish national bus company. She left the company in 2009. Being part of the Flemish Movement, he was at a young age already member of the Volksunie. He seated for that party in the Limburgish provincial council and is since 2004, a Flemish Parliament member for the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA). Jean-Jacques De Gucht (born 9 December 1983) is a Flemish politician and member of Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats. He was elected to the Belgian Senate by the Dutch electoral college in the 2007 Belgian federal election, which took place on 10 June 2007. Jean-Jacques De Gucht is the son of Karel De Gucht, former European Commissioner for Trade Policy, Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs and chairman of the Flemish Liberals and Democrats. As with Jean Sarkozy, criticism has been levied over the perceived nepotism which led to his appointment, at the age of 27, as the head of the electoral list for the Open VLD party in the 2007 federal elections for the province of East Flanders, despite his lack of any relevant work experience. Jean-Luc Dehaene

Jean Luc Joseph Marie 'Jean-Luc' Dehaene (Dutch: [ʒɑ̃ːˈlyk dəˈɦaːnə] ; 7 August 1940 – 15 May 2014) was a Belgian politician who served as the prime minister of Belgium from 1992 until 1999. During his political career, he was nicknamed 'The Plumber' and 'The Minesweeper' for his ability to negotiate political deadlocks. A member of the Christen-Democratisch en Vlaams (CD&V) party and its antecedents, Dehaene gained his first ministerial appointment in 1981. Dehaene's first government (1992–1995) included both Christian and Social Democrats and presided over the creation of a new constitution, effectively transforming Belgium into a federal state. His second government (1995–1999) coincided with a number of crises in Belgium including the Dutroux scandal. The Dioxin Affair, occurring shortly before the 1999 election, led to a swing against the major parties and Dehaene's government fell. Following his final term as Prime Minister he was active in both Belgian and European politics. Jean-Marie Dedecker

Jean-Marie Louis Dedecker (born 13 June 1952) is a Belgian politician. In 1999 and 2003, Dedecker was directly elected to the Belgian Senate for the Flemish Liberals and Democrats (VLD). In 2004, Dedecker ran for a seat in the Flemish Parliament, after taking his seat in the Flemish Parliament, Dedecker was elected by his colleagues as a community senator as well. He was expelled from the VLD, and eventually sided with the N-VA party for a brief time in November–December 2006. In January 2007, Dedecker presented his own political party— Lijst Dedecker—that participated in the 2007 general election. Against all expectations, Lijst Dedecker got 5 elected in Parliament, and 1 in Senate. Dedecker became well-known first for his long career as a judo coach, with his judokas winning for Belgium unprecedented number of medals (among them four times Olympian gold), and then for his politics. In 2004, as a pure outsider, he won 38% of the votes for the VLD party leadership against the party establishment. He was expelled from the VLD though in October 2006. Jean-Pierre Van Rossem (29 May 1945 – 13 December 2018) was a Belgian stock market guru, economist, econometrician, convicted fraudster, author, philosopher, public figure, politician, and member of the Belgian and Flemish Parliaments. Van Rossem studied economics at the Ghent University in 1963–67. With his final term paper De omloopsnelheid van het geld : theoretische begripsbenadering en praktische toepassing in België (English: The velocity of money: Theoretical approach to understanding and practical applications in Belgium) he won the International Scholarship of Flanders-prize and was able to study two years of econometrics under Nobel Prize winner Lawrence Klein at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Johan Maria Gerardus Vandeurzen (born 2 June 1958) is a Belgian politician, member of Christen-Democratisch en Vlaams (CD&V), a centrist Flemish Christian Democratic party. Vandeurzen holds a Master of Laws degree from the Catholic University of Leuven. He works at Geyskens-Vandeurzen in Beringen. He became federal representative in January 1993 as a successor to retiring Luc Dhoore [nl]. In 2001, his party, the CVP, was rebranded into CD&V, of which he became secretary-general. In 2004 he became party leader. He remained party leader until December 2007, when he became Minister of Justice in the interim federal Verhofstadt III Government. Coens was born in Bruges on 6 September 1966, the son of politician Daniël Coens, who served as a cabinet minister both in Flanders and nationally. Johan Deckmyn (born 21 December 1967) is a Belgian-Flemish politician and a member of the Vlaams Belang party. Johan Cyrille Corneel Vande Lanotte (born 6 July 1955) is a Belgian politician. He is a member of the SP.A, and became its party president on 15 October 2005. He handed down his leadership positions after the SP.A lost in the 2007 general election. Between 1995 and 2014, he served more than 13 years as Deputy Prime Minister, the longest period for a Flemish socialist after WW II. In his last term he served as the Minister of Economy, Consumer affairs and North Sea in the Di Rupo I Government. With the formation of a new Centre-Right federal government, which excluded his party, Johan Vande Lanotte returned to local politics in October 2014 in Ostend, where he took up his position as alderman for the economy and tourism at Ostend City Council. From August 2015 until the end of 2018 Vande Lanotte was the mayor of Ostend. During his political career he continued to work as a professor at the University of Ghent, specialized in Constitutional Law and Human Rights. She has been schepen (municipal officer) of Planning, Youth, Tourism and Environmental Development in the municipality of Evergem since 2 January 2007. Geysels (born 20 September 1952 in Turnhout) is a former Belgian (Flemish) politician, and former Representative in the Belgian Chamber for the ecologist party Agalev for which he was party chairman. He resigned from the post in 2003, taking responsibility for the party's loss of power in the elections. Geysels obtained a degree in Sociology at the University of Antwerp. Joëlle Milquet

Joëlle F.G.M. Milquet (French: [jɔ.ɛl milkɛ] ; born 17 February 1961) is a Belgian politician from the Humanist Democratic Centre (CDH). She started her career at the Bar in Brussels. From 1995 to 1999 she was a delegate to the Belgian Senate. She has been the president of the CDH party since, and played a prominent role in the 2007-2008 formation negotiations for the Leterme I Government. During the government formation negotiations she was given the nickname 'Madame Non' (Mrs No) by the Flemish media [nl] for her fierce resistance to constitutional reform that would give more autonomy to the different communities of Belgium. Karel De Gucht

Karel Lodewijk Georgette Emmerence De Gucht (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkarəl də ˈɣʏxt]; born 27 January 1954) is a Belgian politician who was the European Commissioner for Trade from February 2010 until 31 October 2014. Previously, he served as Belgium's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2009 and as the European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response from 2009 to 2010. De Gucht was born in Overmere, Belgium. He entered politics at a young age, and became president of the Flemish Liberal Students while studying at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels. He graduated with a master's degree in Law and practised as a lawyer, mainly in commercial matters, at the bar of Ghent. He later taught European Law at his university. Karl-Heinz Lambertz

Karl-Heinz Lambertz (born 4 June 1952) is a Belgian politician holding a master's degree in law from the University of Louvain (UCLouvain) with an additional specialisation in German law (University of Heidelberg). Lambertz was president of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) from 12 July 2017 until 12 February 2020 after serving a 2+1⁄2-year term as first vice-president. He is also president of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community of Belgium. Born on 4 June 1952 in Schoppen, Lambertz' interest in politics came early in his career, having served as President of the German-speaking Youth Council (1975–1980). Koen Daniëls

Koen Daniëls (born 17 May 1978) is a Belgian politician for the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA). Daniëls became a member of the Flemish Parliament in 2014 on the East Flanders N-VA list. Because the N-VA mayor of Sint-Niklaas, Lieven Dehandschieter, did not take up his mandate in the parliament, Daniëls became a member of the Flemish Parliament in mid-June 2014 for the East Flanders electoral district . He is mainly concerned with education. In the 2019 elections, he was re-elected to the Flemish Parliament from third place on the East Flemish N-VA list.
